Item effects
From the Polandball Go Wiki
Most items carry an effect line under their attack and defense numbers, such as Sandspire Crown's "On hit: Unexhaust 2 random Polbies (once per floor)". The line describes something extra the item does when its ball attacks a Mymic.
Item effects apply only in raids. In PvP duels and alliance war attacks, an item counts only through its attack and defense numbers, and the effect line does nothing. Execute, double damage, unexhaust, Poison and the rest are all raid-only.
1 Trigger words#
The first words of an effect line say when it fires.
- On hit: when the ball's attack lands on a Mymic. Most effects use this. Staff of Incandescence reads "On hit: Apply Blinded, Starstruck and Unbalanced".
- On attack: when the ball attacks. Cannon Fodder reads "On attack: Exhaust a random Polbie of yours to deal 2x damage".
- On kill: when the ball's attack defeats a Mymic. Broken Halo reads "On kill: Unexhaust 4 random Polbies (once per floor)".
- On Ultimate: when the ball uses its Ult. Refreshing Noodles reads "On Ultimate: Unexhausts a random allied Attacker".
- When blocked, dodged or resisted: Gilded Halo turns a failed hit into a reward with "When blocked, dodged or resisted, unexhaust 3 random allies".
A line without a trigger word is always on. Sakura Katana simply reads "Attacks deal triple damage".
2 Once per floor and chances#
(once per floor) at the end of a line means it fires the first time its trigger happens on a floor, then waits for the next floor. It is most common on unexhaust effects. Power Slice reads "On kill: Unexhaust a random Polbie (once per floor)", and Dewthorn Grandis reads "On hit: Unexhaust 3 random Polbies and apply 3 stacks of Overgrowth to all Mymics (once per floor)".
A chance means the effect only fires some of the time. Steaming Cuppa reads "On hit: 25% chance to unexhaust a random Polbie", and Lucky Penguin reads "50% chance to deal double damage".
Strike again effects give a chance at an extra hit, and the chance drops each time it repeats. Froststring Bow reads "On hit: 50% chance to strike again (-15% per repeat)", and Rebounder Balls reads "On hit: 40% chance to strike again (-20% per repeat)". Leviticus' Circlet says only "40% chance to strike again (decaying)", and its rate of decay hasn't been confirmed.
3 Applying statuses#
The biggest family of effects puts a status on the Mymic, usually a number of stacks. Shadowscript Brush reads "On hit: Apply 10 stacks of Inked", Burned Scarf reads "On hit: Apply 5 stacks of Burn", and Wool Scarf just "On hit: Apply Brittle". Many statuses lose a stack each time they are used, so more stacks means the status lasts longer. Status effects gives the exact text of each one.
4 Resonance effects#
An item's own hit carries its resonance type, and many lines change what that hit does.
- Hits more targets: Emeraldshot Bow, Duelist's Épée and Steel Saber all read "Resonance hits all Mymics". Twinpoint Spear reads "Resonance hits twice".
- Bonus against Bosses: Blade of Eternal Radiance reads "Resonance deals 10x damage to Bosses", and Tank Cannon "Resonance deals 3x damage to Bosses".
- Bonus against a type: Lightbringer's Blade reads "Resonance deals 3x damage to Shadow Types", Iceranian Ushanka 3x to Ice Types, Bluewind Katana 3x to Wind Types and Aklónitos Trident 3x to Fire Types. Radiant Sickle goes up to "4x damage to Agriculture Types".
- Super Effective bonus: Seaspike Trophy reads "Super Effective Resonance deals 3x damage". Steelblade Katana and Admiral's Cutlass read "Super Effective attacks deal an extra 150% of their damage as Resonance", and Ensekka Blade gives an extra 50%.
- Not a hit: Nibbles reads "Resonance doesn't count as a hit". Some Mymic traits count hits, such as Novoxia's Divine Retribution, "When hit 4 times, randomly Exhausts a Ball."
5 Damage effects#
- Flat multipliers: Sakura Katana triples every attack. Vinewrapped Scythe reads "Multi-attacks deal 3x damage". Taegeuk Spirits reads "Attacks ignore Type matchups and deal 30% more damage".
- Execute: A-2000 has 0 attack and 0 defense and one line, "Execute Mymics below 5% HP".
- Current HP: Crimson Reaver reads "Deal extra damage equal to 25% of the target's current HP".
- Getting past defenses: Dustpiercer reads "Attacks bypass Shield". Commander's Cap reads "Attacks can't be blocked, redirected or miss". Cosmic Glacialis does the most: "Attacks bypass Shield and ignore resistance. Super Effective attacks deal 50% more damage. On hit: Apply 5 stacks of Starstruck".
- Spending your own balls: Shrimp's SwordStaff reads "On attack: Exhausts all of your other Polbies and adds their CP and equipment attack to this attack's base damage". Cannon Fodder exhausts one random ball of yours for double damage.
6 Unexhaust effects#
Unexhausting brings an exhausted ball back so it can attack again. Sandspire Crown, Broken Halo and Dewthorn Grandis are the best-known examples. Exhaust and unexhaust lists every item and status that does it.
7 Odd ones#
- Rainbow Crystal (0 attack, 0 defense, Rare only): "On hit: Change the target's Type to the attack's Type". Rainbowstroke Brush does the same and adds 2 stacks of Inked.
- Mossball Orb: "On hit: Spawn a Frazzle (max 3 at once)".
- Normality Visors: "On hit: Clear all status effects the enemy didn't start with".
- Mirror of Remorse: "Copies the damage of the last attack".
- Cursed Tablet: "Gain 3 Ultimate Attacks".
- Baton of Punishment: "Attacks and Ultimates deal no damage. Multi-attacks deal 220% more damage, plus 3% per 1,000 CP".
- Fisherman's Amulet and Paneseran Crown: "On kill: Medium boost to item drop chance". See Drops and drop rates.
8 Effects that worked too well#
Some combinations have broken raids. Angelic Blade and Divine Halo were used together to unexhaust balls far more than intended, and Arachnid Claws with Matrix split Tapioca into dozens of copies to farm its drops. See Angelic Blade and Divine Halo exploit and Arachnid Claws and Tapioca exploit.
