Forms and typing

From the Polandball Go Wiki

A form is an alternative version of a ball, with its own name, art and lore. Forms keep their base ball's five country stats, but most of them bring their own types. In a duel that makes a form a different ball: it hits with different types and is weak to different things. This page lists the typing changes for many well-known balls, and the balls that have no base form at all. Balls, forms and rarity covers forms in general.

1 How form typing works#

A copy uses the types of the form it is. A Firecracker China is Fire, full stop: its Attacks are Fire, it takes Water hits as a Fire ball does, and none of China's own Agriculture or Energy applies to it.

A dual-typed form gets a primary typing like any dual-typed ball. One of the form's two types is picked at random when you get the copy, and that's the type it attacks with. A trade picks again, from the same two types. See Primary typing.

What never changes is the stat line. Firecracker China and Jiangshi China fight with exactly China's Military, Population, Economy, Diplomacy and Soft Power, even though one is a Legendary and the other a Common. So when two forms of one ball are compared, the difference is all in typing, rarity and the CP each copy has grown to.

In the game's catalogue as of mid-September 2026, roughly nine forms in ten had typing different from their base ball. Keeping the base typing is the exception.

2 Reference list#

Base typing first, then each form. Forms that keep the base typing are left out.

Forms that drop to one type

Some forms trade a pair of types for a single one, which means no primary typing to draw and only one set of weaknesses. Global Dominion British Empire (Cosmic), Kamikaze Empire of Japan (Fire), Firecracker China (Fire), Peninsular War Spain (Fire), Winter Referee Soviet Union (Ice) and Brazilian Expeditionary Force (Shadow) are all single-typed forms of dual-typed balls.

Forms that keep the base typing

A few forms are a new look on the same types. Undersea Sealand stays Water, Two Lungs of the Church Vatican City stays Faith, and Rising Sun Empire of Japan keeps Fire and Metal. Witching Hour Prague keeps Prague's Storm and Shadow.

3 Balls with no base form#

Some characters have no base form in the game: their first form is the only version anyone can own. Most come from event sets:

For these balls, the catalogue still lists a typing for the character itself, and it doesn't always match the form. NAFTA is listed as Energy and Balance, but World Cup Hosts, the only NAFTA there is, is Nature and Cosmic. Konstanz is listed as Metal, while Swiss Lights Konstanz is Shadow. Xia Dynasty is listed as Wind and Nature, and Xia, the First Dragon is Light and Water. In a duel only the form's typing counts.

4 Why it matters#

  • Matchups. A Fire Firecracker China and a Water Koi Pond China want completely different opponents. Read the copy's own types before planning around it. See Types and matchups.
  • Weapon typing. An item's Weapon hits with the item's resonance, so a form that loses a useful type can sometimes get it back through its item. See Weapon and item power.
  • Choosing a copy. Since stats are shared, the best form of a ball for a team is usually the one whose typing fits the team, or the one you've already grown furthest.

5 On polbielytics#

Each ball's page lists its forms with their own types and rarity, and battle figures are kept separately for each form.
