Multis and Ults

From the Polandball Go Wiki

On top of their balls' ordinary attacks, raiders have two specials: the Multi, which spreads a hit across several Mymics, and the Ult (Ultimate), which puts one big hit on a single Mymic. They are few, and several bosses are built around how and when you use them.

1 How many you get#

Each raider gets three Multis and Ults in total for the whole raid. It isn't three of each, and it isn't per floor. A raider who spends all three on floor 2 has none left for the boss. A full party of four has twelve between them.

A special is still an attack made by one of your balls. The bosses that care which type of Ultimate lands on them go by the type of the ball that used it.

2 The Multi#

A Multi hits three random living Mymics, or every Mymic on the floor if three or fewer are left. It hits each target softer than an ordinary attack would.

How much softer depends on the ball's Multiattack orb track. The game's screen shows the penalty as −22% at Multiattack level 6 and −17% at level 7. Figures for the other levels haven't been confirmed. The same track gives the ball Resistance in PvP duels and alliance wars.

Multis are at their best on floors with several Mymics close to death, or against bosses that reward them. Because the targets are random, a Multi is a poor way to finish one particular Mymic.

3 The Ult#

An Ult hits one Mymic hard. The game doesn't publish how hard, and its raid damage formula isn't public, so the size of an Ult compared with an ordinary attack isn't known.

The Ultimate orb track gives a ball Speed in PvP duels and alliance wars. What it does for a raid Ult, if anything, isn't published.

4 Ordinary attacks and the Attack track#

An ordinary attack is the ball's own hit plus its item's hit. The Attack orb track adds Basic Attack (Raids), 5% per level and 50% at level 10. In PvP and wars the same track gives Type Boost. See Type proficiency and orbs for the full tables.

5 Targeting rules#

Some traits redirect attacks, and they treat Multis differently:

  • Taunt, "All attacks are redirected to me." The game's data says a Multi that missed every Taunt Mymic has one of its targets swapped for one.
  • Gravity Well, Kivalaian's leader trait, redirects only single-target attacks. Multis aren't affected.
  • Undercurrent, Sea Ruler's trait, can redirect a Multi's targets the same way it redirects a single attack.
  • Retaliate exhausts a ball when the same Mymic is hit twice in a row by single-target attacks. A Multi resets its count.

6 Bosses that react to Multis#

  • Vertexia: Visceral Slash, "Every attack that isn't a Multi: Loses 1 stack. When the last stack is lost, exhausts 3 random Polbies and resets. A Multi attack resets it." Eye of the Storm adds "When a Multi resets Visceral Slash from its last stack: Unexhausts a random Polbie." A Multi at the right moment saves three balls and brings one back.
  • Nergal, The Conqueror: Doom, "On Multiattack: Apply 1 stack of Shatterpoint." Each Shatterpoint stack makes later Ultimates hit Nergal 10% harder.

7 Bosses that react to Ults#

  • Kivalaian: Black Hole, "Gains 1 stack per Ultimate in a row. At 2 stacks, gains 3 stacks of Event Horizon and resets." Event Horizon then exhausts a random ball on each of the next three attacks on Kivalaian. Never land two Ultimates on it back to back. Below half HP its Unraveling adds a Shatterpoint stack with each Ultimate.
  • Xterial: Avalanche, "When hit by an Ice Ultimate: For every 3 stacks of Brittle, loses them and unexhausts a random Polbie." Ice damage builds the Brittle, and an Ice Ultimate cashes it in.
  • The Commonwealth: Law of the Inevitable keeps it immune to Chaos until a Shadow, a Light and a Cosmic Ultimate have each landed on it. Three of the party's specials have to be Ultimates of those three types.
  • Shatterpoint: "I take 10% more damage per stack from Ultimate Attacks." Nergal starts with one stack, and Kivalaian gains them once it is Unraveling.

See Vertexia, Xterial and Kivalaian, Nergal, The Conqueror and The Commonwealth for those fights in full.

8 Items that change them#

Item effects work only in raids, and four items change the specials:

  • Vinewrapped Scythe (✦✦✦✦, Nature, 7,000 attack, 300 defense, from Diablos): "Multi-attacks deal 3x damage". It turns the Multi from a weaker hit into a much bigger one. The game's Atlas lists 0.24% per kill.
  • Baton of Punishment (✦✦, Cosmic, 1,500 attack, 1,200 defense, from Marshal Lily, for Chaos, Light, Shadow or Cosmic balls only): "Attacks and Ultimates deal no damage. Multi-attacks deal 220% more damage, plus 3% per 1,000 CP". On a ball with 10,000 CP that is 250% more, three and a half times a normal Multi. The ball is useless for anything else, and its owner has only three specials. The game's Atlas lists 0.5% per kill.
  • Cursed Tablet (✦✦✦✦, Chaos, 5,000 attack, 9,000 defense, from Nergal): "Gain 3 Ultimate Attacks". The text doesn't say whether these come on top of the usual three specials. The game's Atlas lists 0.25% per kill.
  • Refreshing Noodles (✦✦, Agriculture, 0 attack, 200 defense, from Noodle Imperialist): "On Ultimate: Unexhausts a random allied Attacker". The game's Atlas lists 0.8% per kill.

9 Planning the three#

With only three specials each, it helps to decide in the lobby where they go. Against Vertexia, Multis are worth holding for Visceral Slash resets. Against The Commonwealth, three players should each save an Ultimate of the right type. Against Kivalaian, Ultimates should never come two in a row.

See Raids and Mymics for how a raid runs and Exhaust and unexhaust for the rule that each ball attacks once.
