Nergal, The Conqueror
From the Polandball Go Wiki
Nergal, The Conqueror is a 3★ boss, Fire and Chaos, on floor 6. With 8,000,000 HP it has more than eight times the HP of any other boss. The Commonwealth comes next at 950,000. Nergal also carries a countdown that ends the raid in a loss if your party can't hit hard enough, fast enough.
1 Apocolypse: the countdown#
The trait is spelled "Apocolypse" in the game. It reads: "On hit: Gain 1 stack of Apocolypse. Every time I take a total of 1 million damage, reduce my stacks of Apocolypse to 1. When I have 12 stacks of Apocolypse, you lose."
Nergal starts with 1 stack. Each hit that deals damage adds one. Each time the damage Nergal has taken passes another 1,000,000, the stacks drop back to 1. If they reach 12 first, the raid is lost.
That gives the party eleven damaging hits to deal each million, which works out to about 91,000 damage per hit on average. The game's data adds that leftover damage carries over: if the hit that passes 1,000,000 takes the total to 1,150,000, the extra 150,000 already counts toward the next million.
The data also says the stack is added per damage source, not per attack. An item's resonance hit or a Splinter follow-up counts as its own hit. Small extra hits are risky here. They each spend one of the eleven while adding little toward the million.
Nergal's 8,000,000 HP is eight of these cycles in a row. The counter is shared by the whole party, and a full lobby brings four rosters to the same countdown.
2 Doom and Universal Weakness: it gets easier#
Nergal's other traits work for you.
- Universal Weakness: "I take 1% more damage per stack." Nergal starts with 1 stack.
- Doom: "On Multiattack: Apply 1 stack of Shatterpoint. On hit: Gain 1 stack of Universal Weakness for every 10000 damage."
- Shatterpoint: "I take 10% more damage per stack from Ultimate Attacks." Nergal starts with 1 stack of this too.
Doom turns your damage into more damage. A hit of 100,000 adds 10 stacks of Universal Weakness, and every later hit does 10% more. The game's data says Universal Weakness is never used up and has no cap, so it keeps building for the whole fight. The first million is the hardest. After that the weakness piles up and each cycle gets easier.
Doom also rewards Multis. Each Multi that hits Nergal adds a stack of Shatterpoint, and each stack makes later Ultimates hit it 10% harder. A party can open with Multis to build Shatterpoint and save the Ults for later. Each raider has three Multis and Ults in total for the raid, so this is a real choice. See Multis and Ults.
3 Types#
On the type chart, Chaos is strong against both Fire and Chaos, so a Chaos ball is the one type that scores +2 against Nergal. Balance, Cosmic, Faith, Light, Oil, Water and Wind are strong against one of the two. Agriculture, Fire, Ice, Metal, Nature and Shadow are weak against it.
Big single hits matter more than anything here. A hit well above 100,000 both moves the countdown toward its reset and feeds Universal Weakness for the hits after it.
4 Drops#
Nergal drops two ✦✦✦✦ items. Each kill gives everyone in the party their own chance at them, and the game's Atlas lists these chances per kill:
- Crimson Reaver, Chaos, 9,999 attack and 9,999 defense: "Deal extra damage equal to 25% of the target's current HP". The Atlas lists 0.24%.
- Cursed Tablet, Chaos, 5,000 attack and 9,000 defense: "Gain 3 Ultimate Attacks". The Atlas lists 0.25%.
Crimson Reaver scales with the target's HP, so it is at its best against bosses with a lot of HP still standing. On paper, 25% of Nergal's 8,000,000 is 2,000,000 extra on the opening hit, though how the bonus fits into the rest of the damage formula isn't published.
5 What isn't known#
The game doesn't publish its raid damage formula, so how many balls a party needs to beat Nergal can't be worked out from the traits alone. Nergal's hidden resistance value in the game's data is 0.6, the same as the other 3★ bosses, and what that value does to damage isn't known.
See Special bosses for the other unusual 3★ fights and Raid levels for where Nergal sits among them.
