Type-changing effects
From the Polandball Go Wiki
Most raid planning starts from a Mymic's types. A handful of items and traits change those types in the middle of a fight, or turn the chart upside down for a hit. Some work for you and some against you, and a few can be used either way.
1 Rainbow Crystal and Rainbowstroke Brush#
Two items rewrite the target's type outright:
- Rainbow Crystal (✦✦, Balance, 0 attack, 0 defense, Rare balls only): "On hit: Change the target's Type to the attack's Type". It drops from Seven Boxes, and the game's Atlas lists 2% per kill.
- Rainbowstroke Brush (✦✦✦✦, Cosmic, 5,000 attack, 3,000 defense): "On hit: Apply 2 stacks of Inked and change the target's Type to the attack's Type". It drops from Iris Unbound, and the Atlas lists 0.2% per kill.
After the change, the Mymic has a single type, and the rest of the party can pick balls that are strong against it. A Mymic with two types that resist most of your roster becomes one type with a clear weakness.
The type you give it matters. Chaos, Energy and Faith are strong against their own type on the chart, so a Mymic turned into one of those can then be hit Super Effectively by balls of the same type. Balance, Fire, Ice, Light, Metal, Shadow and Wind are weak against their own type, so a Mymic turned into one of those resists more of the same.
Rainbow Crystal adds nothing to the hit itself, with 0 attack. Rainbowstroke Brush is a strong item in its own right, and its Inked, "Take 50% increased damage on the next attacks," pays off on the very next hits.
2 Adaptable#
Seven Boxes, a Light and Balance Elite with 100,000 HP, has Adaptable: "I become the type of the next attack". It guards floor 5 of 1★ raids and floor 3 of 2★ raids.
The game's data says each hit that lands changes Seven Boxes to the type of that attack and drops its second type. So every hit after the first meets whatever type hit it last. The same chart logic applies as for Rainbow Crystal:
- A run of Chaos, Energy or Faith balls keeps hitting it Super Effectively, since each one turns it into a type that the next one is strong against.
- A run of Fire, Ice, Light, Metal, Shadow or Wind balls keeps getting resisted.
- Mixing types well lets you set up the next hit. A Fire hit leaves it Fire, and Chaos, Cosmic, Faith, Light, Oil, Water and Wind are all strong against Fire.
Seven Boxes drops Rainbow Crystal.
3 Extreme Instability#
Unit DX, a level-5 Energy Elite with 1,000,000 HP on floor 5 of 3★ raids, has Extreme Instability: "On attack: Change my type randomly."
"On attack" here means when your balls attack it. The game's data says it takes one of the seventeen types at random each time, and loses any second type. There's no way to plan the matchup, so raw damage counts for more than typing against Unit DX.
Unit DX drops Atomic Disk (✦✦✦, Chaos, 0 attack, 2,600 defense), which turns the trait into a weapon: "On hit: Apply Extreme Instability and Blinded". Blinded reads "Can't resist attacks," so the random type can't resist your hits, only fail to be weak to them. The Atlas lists 0.6% per kill.
4 Unstable and Stable#
The Weird Unit, a Shadow and Energy Elite with 50,000 HP on floor 3 of 1★ raids, has Unstable: "The next attack has inverted type advantage. On hit: Apply Stable." Stable reads "On hit: Apply Unstable."
The two swap back and forth, so every other attack has the chart flipped. Under Unstable, a type that would be resisted counts as strong, and one that would be strong counts as resisted. Against The Weird Unit, Wind is weak against both of its types, so on an Unstable turn Wind becomes the best type you can bring.
Two items put Unstable on any Mymic:
- Alchemist's Brew (✦✦, Energy, 0 attack, 0 defense, from The Weird Unit): "On hit: Apply Unstable". The Atlas lists 1.5% per kill.
- Antimatter Channeler (✦✦✦, Energy, 3,200 attack, 1,500 defense, from Aureate, Epic rarity or lower): "On hit: Apply Unstable and Rarity Collector". The Atlas lists 1.1% per kill.
This lets a party turn a boss's resistances into weaknesses for one hit. Against Dragon Lord, a pure Fire boss, Agriculture, Fire, Ice, Metal, Nature and Shadow are all weak on the chart, and all strong on the attack right after Unstable lands.
5 Worldbuilding#
Graffy, a 2★ boss, Oil and Wind, with 400,000 HP, has Worldbuilding with 2 stacks: "When defeated: Loses 1 stack and steps into a new world painted in the Type of the Polbie that landed the finishing blow, returning with a third of his max HP as that Type."
Graffy comes back twice, each time with a third of 400,000 HP, and each time as the type of the ball that finished it. That gives you a say in its next type. Finishing it with a Chaos, Energy or Faith ball means the next phase is weak to that same type. Finishing it with a Fire ball opens the next phase to the seven types strong against Fire.
Graffy drops Vibrant Paintbrush (✦✦✦✦, Wind, 8,000 attack, 8,000 defense) and Colorburst Papers (✦✦✦, Wind, 4,000 attack, 3,000 defense). Both apply Palette, "Takes 5% more damage per stack (max 10). Gains a stack when hit by a Type it hasn't been hit by yet," which rewards bringing many types. The Atlas lists 1% and 2% per kill.
6 Salty: changing the attack instead#
Salty changes the hit rather than the Mymic: "On hit: If I would take Water type damage, convert it to Storm type dealing 25% bonus damage and consume 1 stack." Salt Shakers, from Dragon Lord, applies 3 stacks, and Noctyria can hand it out at random through Thaumaturgy. A Water ball against a Mymic that resists Water but not Storm gains twice over.
7 Ignoring the chart#
Some items skip the chart rather than change it. Taegeuk Spirits reads "Attacks ignore Type matchups and deal 30% more damage". Drowned reads "The next attack becomes super effective, and Water attacks deal double damage." Snared reads "Resonance is always Super Effective", and Blinded "Can't resist attacks." Status effects has each of those in full, and Raid weaknesses and immunities covers the traits that bend the chart on their own.
8 On polbielytics#
The type chart shows any matchup both ways, which helps when a Mymic changes type mid-fight.
