Duel arenas
From the Polandball Go Wiki
PvP duels in Polandball Go are fought in an arena. The game picks one at random when the duel loads, shows its name and backdrop, and gives hits of the arena's types a small bonus for that duel. You can't choose the arena, and you don't know it until the fight starts.
Arenas are a PvP feature. Alliance war attacks are duels too, but they aren't fought in arenas. See How a duel works.
1 The six arenas#
The game's catalogue listed six arenas in October 2026. Each boosts one or two types by 5%:
- Fiery Pits: Fire and Shadow.
- Homestead: Agriculture and Mountain.
- Outer Space: Cosmic.
- Yin and Yang: Balance.
- Glacier Gulch: Ice.
- Sun-Kissed Zenith: Light and Wind.
Each arena also has its own scene art, an artist credit and a line of lore. Homestead's is about home sweet home, and Outer Space's says Poland will make it there one day, just not today.
Nine of the seventeen types have an arena. Chaos, Energy, Faith, Metal, Nature, Oil, Storm and Water have none, so their hits never get the bonus.
2 How the bonus works#
The arena bonus is the last step in working out a hit. The game first applies the type chart: the hit's type is scored against the defender's types, the attacker's Attack orbs raise a good matchup, and the defender's Multiattack orbs soften a bad one. Only then, if the hit's type is one of the arena's, the result is multiplied by 1.05 and rounded half up.
What counts is the type of the hit, not the type of the ball:
- An Attack hits with the ball's primary typing. See Primary typing.
- A Weapon hits with the item's resonance type, or the ball's own type if the item has none. A Water ball carrying a Light item gets the Sun-Kissed Zenith bonus on its Weapon hits and not on its Attacks.
The defender's types don't matter to the arena. A Fire hit gets 5% more in Fiery Pits whether it lands on a Nature ball or a Water ball.
3 Worked examples#
Take a ball whose Attack is 3,000.
- A neutral hit. It is Cosmic, and its target takes Cosmic hits neutrally. In Outer Space the hit is 3,000 × 1.05 = 3,150. In any other arena it stays 3,000.
- A boosted hit. It is Fire, its Attack orbs are at level 5 (16% Type Boost), and it hits an Ice and Nature ball, which Fire is strong against twice. The chart takes the hit to 3,000 + 960 = 3,960. In Fiery Pits that becomes 4,158.
- A resisted hit. It is Cosmic and hits a Metal ball whose Multiattack orbs are at 10 (25% Resistance). The chart takes it down to 2,250. In Outer Space it comes back up to 2,363, still well short of the neutral 3,000.
A real ladder duel shows the arena doing nothing at all. A Global Dominion British Empire with Staff of Incandescence ✦✦✦ met a United Nations with Dustpiercer ✦✦ in Homestead. The Empire attacks with Cosmic and its Weapon is Light, the UN attacks with Cosmic and its Weapon is Balance. None of those is Agriculture or Mountain, so every hit in that duel was exactly what it would have been anywhere else. Had the same duel landed in Sun-Kissed Zenith, the Empire's Light Weapon hit of 7,288 would have been 7,652.
4 How much an arena is worth#
An arena turns up about one duel in six. A ball whose hits are all Fire gets 5% more in one duel out of six and nothing in the other five, which averages out to less than 1% a duel. A ball that attacks with one arena type and carries an item of another, such as a Cosmic attacker with a Light weapon, has two arenas that help it, which is still only one duel in three.
Next to the other numbers in a duel, that's small:
- The type chart moves a hit by up to 60% up or 50% down, depending on orb levels.
- Military moves Attack between 0.70 and 1.30 times the base figure.
- Ten percent more CP is worth about 21% in the race to a KO, since CP sets both damage and HP. See Country stats.
In the first weeks of duels, the six arenas showed almost identical results: attackers won about the same share in every arena, the same share of duels ended in KOs, and the average duel ran about 17 rounds in each. The typings that did best in one arena were mostly the ones that did best everywhere.
5 Special effects#
The game's arena catalogue has room for a special effect on each arena. No arena effect has shown up in recorded duels so far: every hit fits the published formula, with the 5% type bonus as the only thing the arena adds, and nothing in a duel deals damage over time or heals.
6 What to do about arenas#
- Build for the whole field. Since the arena is random and the bonus is 5%, a team built around one arena's types gives up far more in the other five than it gains in the one.
- Read the arena when the duel loads. It can still decide a close KO race. If both your balls would land a KO the same round, a 5% bigger hit can be the difference between finishing the other ball and leaving it on a sliver of HP.
- Weapon timing. A Weapon has only two charges a duel. If your item's resonance matches the arena, those two hits are 5% bigger in this duel, a small reason to spend them rather than hold them. See Weapon and item power.
